What Is a Baati?

The baati is a traditional home and leisure dress rooted in African everyday life and passed down through generations. Worn for comfort, rest, and daily routines, it has long been a symbol of ease, familiarity, and home. Its loose, flowing fit is designed to move with the body, making it a timeless garment for women of all ages.

Traditionally, the baati has no distinct front or back, an intentional design that reflects simplicity, practicality, and freedom of wear. It is often worn on its own or layered with a garbosaar (shawl), adapting easily to different moments, seasons, and settings.
